Breaking News: Vampire Weekend Settles Copyright Dispute Over Album Cover

Agreement Reached Amidst Contraversy

The mysterious polo-wearing woman gracing the cover of the Vampire Weekend album Contra finally has a name: Kasia Malinowska. The Polish model has reached a confidential settlement with Vampire Weekend and their label, XL Records, over the use of her image on the album cover without her permission.

The lawsuit, filed in 2010, alleged that the band had used Malinowska's image without her consent and had failed to properly compensate her for its use. The cover art, which features Malinowska wearing a polo shirt and riding a horse, has become iconic in the music industry.

The terms of the settlement have not been disclosed, but Malinowska's lawyer, Mark Geragos, has stated that his client is "very satisfied" with the outcome. Vampire Weekend and XL Records have not commented on the settlement.

The resolution of the lawsuit brings to an end a long-running legal battle that has cast a shadow over the band's success. Contra was a critical and commercial success, debuting at number one on the Billboard 200 chart. However, the controversy over the album cover has followed the band throughout their career.

The settlement is a victory for Malinowska, who has been seeking compensation for the use of her image for years. It also serves as a reminder to artists and record labels of the importance of obtaining proper consent before using the likeness of others in their work.
