Canadian Fp1 Alonso Tops Mixed Session

Canadian FP1: Alonso Tops Mixed Session

Mixed conditions in Montreal mean it's all to play for heading into the Canadian Grand Prix.

Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso topped the timesheets in Friday's opening practice session for the Canadian Grand Prix, as wet weather conditions caused chaos and a number of red flags.

The session was stopped twice, once after just five minutes when Nicholas Latifi crashed his Williams at Turn 3. The second stoppage came with 20 minutes remaining, after Carlos Sainz Jr. beached his Ferrari in the gravel.

Despite the interruptions, Alonso managed to set a best time of 1:13.911, just 0.006 seconds ahead of Mercedes driver George Russell.

Max Verstappen was third fastest for Red Bull, ahead of Sergio Perez and Lando Norris.

The session was dominated by drivers using intermediate tires, with only a few venturing out on slicks in the closing stages.

The weather is expected to remain mixed for the rest of the weekend, so it's likely that we'll see more mixed conditions on Saturday and Sunday.

Conclusion

The Canadian Grand Prix is always one of the most unpredictable races on the calendar, and this year's edition is shaping up to be no different. With the weather expected to play a major role, it's anyone's guess who will come out on top.
