Corbyn ends tradition of Labour voting in Islington North since 1937

Jeremy Corbyn has been re-elected as MP for Islington North after standing as an independent candidate. The former Labour leader clinched a victory with a majority of 14,121 votes, ahead of Labour's candidate, Jennette Arnold, who received 7,956 votes.

Mr Corbyn is visibly emotional as he thanks the people of Islington North mentioning various priorities for moving forward including. Mr Corbyn's victory ends a tradition of Islington North voting for Labour since a 1937 by-election.

Jeremy Corbyn is within touching distance of pulling off a shock win in Islington North according to a new poll. The MRP survey by YouGov has the former Labour leader marginally ahead of Labour's official candidate, Jennette Arnold, in the race to represent the constituency in north London.

The poll, published on Thursday, puts Corbyn on 37 per cent, with Arnold on 36 per cent. The Conservatives are trailing in third place on 17 per cent, with the Liberal Democrats on 6 per cent and the Greens on 4 per cent.
